Thousands Periogard Mouthwash Withdrawn Due to Contaminated Burkholderia bacteria

Colgate-Palmolive announced on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 that it pulled Periogard mouthwash products, after some samples were found to contain the Burkholderia bacteria .
Agency for Drugs and Health Products (MHRA) said the contaminated mouthwash that does not cause harm to healthy people, but can cause infections in people with immune system problems or with chronic lung conditions such as cystic fibrosis.
“For healthy people should be no problem, but for some people there may be a small potential risk of infection. If there are side effects that should be suspected after using this product, immediately contact a doctor.”said Gerald Heddell from the MHRA.
