Streptococcus Mutans Bacteria Can Cause Heart Dammage
Posted by: chickenfoodrecipes / Category: Health careA The report in the journal of Infection and Immunity stated, Streptococcus mutans bacteria that cause cavities can go into cardiac tissue, causing endocarditis are dangerous and deadly. This could happen because there is a protein that allows bacteria commonly attached in dental plaque, enter the bloodstream and circulates to the heart.
Acid-producing bacteria are usually only in the mouth. But the procedure of drilling or cleaning of plaque, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream. The body’s immune system can kill bacteria, but in some cases, it could enter the heart and form colonies on heart valves.
How could that happen? Jacqueline Abranches, Ph.D., research assistant professor of microbiology and immunology University of Rochester investigate the process. He found that the cause is a collagen-binding protein called CNM.
Doctors need to be more careful. They must prevent the Streptococcus mutans bacteria is not spread together with the CNM. Doctors also need to examine health and vulnerability of cardiac patients.
“In the dental clinic, patients with heart disease risk should be examined first, whether they have a protein CNM or not. If so, the dentist must perform special actions, for example by giving more antibiotics, “said Jacqueline Abranches.
